ABOUT ELLIOT JOHNSON

Qualified Licensed Bathroom Renovators

Having your bathroom renovated is something that you have probably been thinking about and planning for a long time. We realize, here at E J Building, that it’s a big deal and as such you need a team who you can trust and rely on to ensure that the process is seamless.

We believe it is important that there is one person running the show, who will manage the project from start to finish to ensure that there is minimal disruption and to make your life as easy as possible. For us that person is Elliot Johnson, owner of Elliot Johnson Building.

Elliot is extremely experienced having undertaken apprenticeships in both joinery and carpentry. He is a licensed building practitioner (LBP) which means he is able to carry out restricted building work and to manage complex architectural design. He has more than 20 years’ experience as a craftsman, site foreman, project manager and now company owner. He is also a member of certified builders.

Elliot’s philosophy is that above all, the work and materials used need to be of the highest quality that stands up to the test of time and the rigors of family life. We employ a team of tradespeople who share that philosophy. Our aim is to produce the highest quality bathrooms possible, with minimal inconvenience to you.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. What area do you service?
We are based in Ellerslie, but we cover the whole of the Auckland region.

2. Do you do partial renovations if I don’t want to renovate the entire bathroom?
We specialize in complete bathroom renovations. If you just wish to replace a bathroom fitting such as a vanity or toilet we are probably not the right fit for your project.

3. Are you able to give us a fixed quote?
Yes, we provide fixed quotes for nearly all of our projects. There is nothing worse than entering into a renovation project and getting a nasty surprise when the final bill is received. Our quotes summarise what is discussed at the initial site consultation and they generally consist of 5-6 pages of listed tasks so there are no surprises.

4. Do you offer a warranty?
We offer a 5 year warranty as standard. Our full disclosure statement is available upon request and will be presented at time of quoting.

5. Can I purchase my own tiles and bathroom fixtures?
Yes, we encourage you to pick out tiles and bathroom fixtures yourself according to your taste and budget. We will give you details of our preferred suppliers and also provide you with a shopping list covering all items needed along with measurements and specifications.

6. Do I need to employ any other trades?
No, we employ and manage all of the trades involved in your renovation which will make the renovation a lot less stressful. A bathroom renovation will typically require 8 - 10 different trades and if any of which are unreliable they will effect all other trades involved. For this reason we are reluctant to carry out a renovation if a customer wishes to employ trades separately. We have a very good relationship with our team and believe they are the best in their field.

7. How long will it take?
We realize that it is a big inconvenience having people in your house and not having a functioning bathroom. On average a bathroom takes 15 working days. We do run a very strict schedule and it is very rare for any of our renovations to run over time.

8. Do I need to be at home during the renovation?
No, and in fact some people prefer to arrange the renovation whilst they are away on holiday to minimize disruptions. We have an excellent reputation and are always extremely respectful to property. Elliot will be onsite to ensure everything runs smoothly and to give you peace of mind.

9. Am I responsible for removing waste?
We keep a trailer on site and ensure that all rubbish is removed at the completion of the renovation.

10. Do I need building consent?
Building consent is generally not required if you are replacing like for like. However, if you are intending on making major changes you will require building consent for your renovation.

11. How do I get building consent?
Obtaining a building consent is always the care & responsibility of the owner. However, if consent is required, we do have designers that we use, who can draw up design documents to submit to council for you. If you require this service a design fee can be incorporated into the quote.

12. Are you insured?
Yes, our company and staff are appropriately insured. Our public liability cover is $5,000,000
